Mahindra Thar - The Rural Dominator

Mahindra & Mahindra, the home grown automajor's stature in wheeling out off-roading beasts is unmatchable, at least in the Indian sub-continent. Spearheading the stable is, none other than, the sub-compact SUV - Mahindra Thar. Due to its flabbergasting off-roading capabilities and rugged appearance, it has made a name for itself amidst the auto freaks of the country. Mahindra Thar pictures confirm its image of a typical off-roader which is backed superbly by its efficient powertrains, exorbitant four wheel drive system and impeccable fuel efficiency.

Being launched in the country about four years ago, it filled in the shoes of outgoing Mahindra MM540 SUV. Mahindra offers the Thar compact SUV in three variants - Mahindra Thar DI 2WD, Mahindra Thar DI 4WD, Mahindra Thar CRDe. It has been also voted as one of the top ten SUVs present in the Indian auto industry. Inside the cabin, it has a factory-fitted AC and heater to keep the heat away and maintain a cool temperature, irrespective of the outside temperature. Mahindra Thar price is quite affordable as it comes in a modest price range of Rs. 4.81 - 7.32 Lakhs. It is being offered with 5 vibrant colors  - Fiery Black, Toreador Red, Mist Silver, Rocky Beige, and Diamond White. The removable roof enables an individual to feel the fresh breeze while driving.

Mahindra Thar

Needless to say, it is not as advanced, up-market and sophisticated as some of the modern SUVs of today's time but still, Mahindra Thar features and specifications haven't let it down and it is quite peculiar in its own way. Unavailability of various innovative safety features such as airbags, ABS, EBD doesn't make it a less threatening SUV and buyers of rural regions seem unfazed of this fact. Both the DI variants in-house a 2523cc, MDI 3200TC L engine which belts out decent power output of 63bhp and torque performance of 182.5Nm. Both the variants are coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission, and the only difference is in the form of manual shift in 4WD variant. On the contrary, the CRDe variant is immensely powerful and has a top power of 105bhp and peak torque of 247Nm. The company's traditional 5-speed manual gearbox does the duties to this sturdy SUV. It also gets a Rack & Pinion Power Steering for comfortable manoeuvring of the SUV across uneven, muddy and narrow terrains. In all, it can be summed that it is the best off-roader that you can crave for under Rs. 8 Lakhs budget.
